Project Description

Warner Bros sought a comprehensive digital strategy around the entire Harry Potter franchise.

UPDATE: The strategic plan is still being executed; most exciting is my proposal to work with Niantic (makers of Pokemon GO) and make AR experiences all over the world, including special ones for the theme parks.

This plan had to include all the franchise’s digital and physical touchpoints and be ready to support new films being added to the canon. (Starting with “Fantastic Beasts and Were to Find Them”)

The strategic plan I delivered consisted of three components.

  1. Clean up a legacy of incompatible data and databases that had been accumulating since 2000, when Warner Bros started making the Harry Potter films.
  2. Put a persistent identity platform architecture in place such that there could be consistency in the digital relationships with fans. This would involve propagating the identity via APIs into a wide variety of stakeholder touchpoints, including home video, theme parks, social media and games.
  3. Deliver a product and partnership roadmap, including prototype examples, detailing how the franchise could benefit from the application of magical(!) new advances in platforms and devices like AR, VR and connected ecosystems through at least 2020.
